Intensed Pulsed Light
What is Intense Pulsed Light?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a technology aimed at producing light of high intensity during a very short period of
time. It involves specific lamps together with capacitors whose rapid discharge provides the high energy required.
Special filters with different wavelengths are used to allow the various light intensities to target specific zones
within the skin. At Clariancy Aesthetic Clinic, we are using Photochrom which is a 3rd generation IPL. The handpieces
have contact cooling, making treatments effective and painless.
What does IPL do?
Permanent hair reduction.
Acne clearance. Pore reduction.
Skin rejuvenation/Photo Facial. Skin looks brighter and more radiant.
Removal of vascular lesions. (Telangiactasia, Rosacea, Spider Veins)
Removal of pigmented lesions.
Are IPL treatments for everyone?
IPL treatments are most effective in light skinned individuals. Dark skinned or recently tanned individuals are not
suitable due to the increased risk of side effects. A consultation with our doctor will help to determine your skin
type. If necessary, our doctor may either prescribe you with a lightening cream prior to IPL treatments or discuss
with you other suitable alternatives.
Are there any precautions you should take prior to IPL treatments?
Yes. Please refrain from tanning at least 4 weeks prior to IPL treatments.
How is the treatment done?
The skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove excess oils and impurities.
For hair removal, hair is trimmed above the surface of the skin.
A clear cold gel is applied to the treated areas to enhance light transmission.
Protective goggles will be provided to prevent eye injuries.
Pulses of light are delivered over the treatment areas.
What happens after IPL treatments?
After IPL treatments, the skin is particularly sensitive. Our doctor will prescribe you with a post IPL cream to
promote skin recuperation and sunblocks to prevent harmful UV rays.
You should avoid using exfoliating scrubs on the treated area for the first week.
Pigmented areas may become darker 3 days after treatment. This is a usual phenomenon and they may persist
for 7-10 days before fading eventually. Make up can be applied to conceal these areas.
What is the downtime after IPL treatments?
There is no downtime. You can return to work immediately.
How many treatment sessions are required?
Permanent hair reduction can usually be achieved within 4-6 sessions placed at monthly intervals.
In certain individuals, hair may start to regrow after some time. It is usually less dense and lighter than previous.
These individuals may require a yearly maintenance IPL treatment.
For skin rejuvenation, IPL treatments can be performed on a monthly intervals.
The amount of treatment sessions vary for acne clearance and removal of vascular and pigmented lesions. Our
doctor will tailor a regime suitable for you.
What are the potential complications of IPL treatments?
Most often, there are no complications with IPL treatments.
Some may experience mild redness and swelling of the skin which will subside spontaneously in a few hours.
Very rarely, IPL treatments may cause scarring, burning or areas of darkening or even lightening. In the event
should this happen, it can be treated with exceptional results.
